The aspirants who are curious to attain the diploma program in polytechnic colleges will come across the concept of Assam Polytechnic PAT 2024 or Assam Polytechnic state-level entrance exam, managed through the decision of DTE (Directorate of Technical Education).
This entrance exam is organized annually to find admission to the Polytechnic College in Assam. DTE, Assam, conducts Assam Polytechnic PAT 2024.
Assam PAT is a yearly polytechnic exam to offer admission to candidates in the Polytechnic Diploma courses. Admission will be offered to the test-qualifying candidates into various polytechnic colleges or institutions in Assam.
Assam Polytechnic 2024 Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission into Diploma courses, a candidate must fulfil the following conditions.
- Must appear and qualify in the Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) for admission into Diploma Courses’ offered by State Council for Technical Education, Assam, for the concerned academic session as notified by the DTE, Assam.
- For admission into Diploma Courses, the candidate must pass the H.S.L.C. or its equivalent examination with Mathematics and Science as compulsory subjects with
- 40% marks (on Average) in Mathematics and Science for General candidates.
- 35% marks (on Average) in Mathematics and Science for SC candidates.
- 33% marks (on Average) in Mathematics and Science for ST Candidates.

- Medical Standard: A candidate should be physically fit, mentally sound, and possess the minimum physical standard.
- Residential Eligibility: Candidates must be Indian citizens and Permanent residents of Assam.
Reservation of Seats
Subjects to maintaining the qualifying standards and other eligibility conditions for reservation of seats in the Polytechnics of Assam are made for the following categories of candidates of the State of Assam (subject to amendment as per Government decision).
- Scheduled Caste,
- Scheduled Tribes (Plains),
- Scheduled Tribes (Hills),
- O.B.C. (including M.O.B.C.),
- Moran Community,
Candidates must fulfil the condition as stated in Point No. 6.
- Sons/Daughters/Grand Sons/Grand Daughters of Freedom Fighters (both Paternal and Maternal): Candidates must fulfil the conditions stated in serial No. 6.
- Tea Garden and Ex-tea-garden Labour Community (within the limit allocation of O.B.C.) in all Polytechnics except RGP, Diphu & ATI. Candidates must fulfil the condition as stated in serial No. 6.
- Sportspersons: Candidates must fulfil the conditions as stated in serial No. 6.
- C.C.: Candidates must fulfil the conditions as stated in serial No. 6.
- Sons and daughters of Retired Defence Personnel: Candidates must fulfil the condition stated in Point No. 6.
- Physically Handicapped- Candidates must fulfil the condition stated in Point No. 6.
78 Son/Daughter of Central Government and Central Government Public Sector employees serving in the State who are not permanent residents of Assam but are posted in Assam for not more than five years before the last date fixed for submitting the Application. Candidates must fulfil the conditions as stated in serial No. 6.
- Note 4: Candidates applying under this category must attach relevant documentary evidence duly signed by the competent authority. Such as (i) that their parents are not permanent residents of Assam but from other States of the Country, (ii) the Service period of their parents in Assam as an employee of Central Govt./Undertaking. (iii) Certificate from the School/College the candidate last attended.
- 7.9 Candidates of other States and Union Territories against seats reserved by the Government of India and duly nominated by the concerned State/Union Territory.
- Note 5: As per Govt instructions, some reserved seats may be deserved, if such
- reserved seats remain vacant for want of eligible candidates; the seats shall be filled up in order of merit from the candidates under the unreserved category.
- Note 6: If candidates of both the Tea garden and Ex-tea garden Labour communities are
- available, then one seat shall be allotted for each of the two categories.
Selection Process For NCC & Sports Quota
All the eligible candidates are finalized by a Committee consisting of the following members.
- DTE, Assam Chairman.
- Director of Sports Member.
- Director of NCC Member.
- One Principal of Polytechnics on a rotation basis Member.
- Controller of Examination, SCTE Member Secretary.
For NCC Quota:
The candidate has to submit the photocopy of the N.C.C. Examination Certificate from the Issuing Authority in the rank not below the Deputy Director General National Cadets Corps, Ministry of Defence Govt, of India. A certificate of merit (NCC Certificate) issued from the Head of the Institution/College/School will not be accepted.
During the counselling, a candidate has to submit the original certificate from the issuing authority, i.e. Issuing Authority in the rank of not below the Deputy. Director-General National Cadets Corps, Ministry of Defence Govt, of India. Candidates must fulfil the condition as stated in serial No. 6.
The merit for selecting candidates for the NCC category would be as below.
- The certificate would be treated in order of merit as-
- “C” certificate with Grading “A”
- “C” certificate with Grading “B”
- “B” certificate with Grading “A”
- “B” certificate with Grading “B”
- “A” certificate with Grading “A”
- “A” certificate with Grading “B”
- Candidates are asked to submit the documents of attendance, if any.
If nos. of applicants applying against N.C.C. quota seats and their certificates
are equal in rank, then merit will be decided by taking the marks of the Admission Test; even if there is a Tally, then Science and Mathematics marks of the qualifying examination will be taken to decide the merit of the candidates. If there is Tie, then by lottery by the Chairman of the Selection Committee.

Assam Polytechnic Exam Pattern
For Sports Quota :
The medal winner of State Games/State Championships/Tournaments organized by Assam Olympic Association/State Sports Association/Directorate of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam.
The merit will be decided in order of Medals:- Gold/Silver/Bronze received in the abovementioned event. The candidates must receive a medal at least at the State level during the preceding three years of appearing in the polytechnic admission test.
If there is a tie, prizes are equal [Gold/Silver/Bronze], or any candidate obtains no prizes, then merit will be decided by considering the marks obtained at the Polytechnic Admission Test; even if there is a tie, then Science & Mathematics Marks obtained at the qualifying examination will be considered to decide the merit of the candidate.
Again if there is a tie, then through a lottery conducted by the Chairperson of the Selection Committee. The candidates must fulfil the condition as stated in Serial No. 6

- Bonus Marks for the son/daughter of employees of the Deptt. Of Technical Education, Assam. Bonus marks @ 5%, 6.25%, 7.5% & 10% will be awarded to the candidates who are a son/daughters of Employees/Retired Employees under the Directorate of Technical Education, Assam for Grade I, II, III & IV as per Govt, order No. ETE-52/79/B, dtd. Dispur, the 10th August 1979 & this office Modified order No. TE (Ex) Admn-2/2014/pt-1/647-60, dt 7/4/14.They are requested to apply to the concerned Institute ten days before the PAT examination’s commencement date.

- These seats shall be subtracted from the allocation to the unreserved general category and are subjected to approval from Govt of India.
- Since the new 11 (eleven) nos. of polytechnics are to start functioning from the academic session 2017- 18 along with the existing polytechnic, hence as per reservation policy, the number of seats will be increased with prior approval from the Government of Assam.
