The UGC NET is the national-level entrance examination organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Candidates can apply for an examination based on their eligibility criteria.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

The candidates should check their eligibility criteria before filling out the application form. The eligibility criteria details will be available on the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The eligibility criteria will include minimum educational qualification, number of attempts, age limit, etc. As per the eligibility criteria, applicants will get admission.

Academic Qualification

There are the minimum academic qualification has provided below

• Applicants must have at least 55% marks in master’s degree or equivalent examination from UGC-recognized universities/colleges.
• 50% marks are required for OBC non-creamy layer / SC / ST / PWD category candidates.
• Transgender candidates will also be eligible to have qualifying criteria similar to SC / ST / PWD categories.
• Candidates pursuing a master’s degree or have appeared for the final Exam and waiting for their results can also apply. Such candidates will be provisionally admitted and will be eligible for JRF. To be eligible for assistance, professors must qualify for a master’s degree with the required percentage according to the category. Candidates must complete their master’s degree within two years of declaring the UGC NET result.
• Candidates with a PhD degree whose master’s Exam was completed by 19th September 1991 will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.
• Students are suggested to apply for the NET Exam for the subject they have completed their graduation. If the subject is not available, choose a subject similar to it.

Age Limit

Following is the minimum age limit required to apply for an assistant professor & junior research fellowship.

Assistant Professor:

• There is no age limit set for applying for the Assistant Professor.
• Candidates will be eligible for the post of assistant professor if they successfully qualify NET/SLET/SET exam.
• Candidates with a PhD degree from University Grants Commission will be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions.
• Candidates who have cleared State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held before 1st June 2002 are exempted from appearing in NET.

Junior Research Fellowship:

• The age of the applicants should not be more than 28 years as of 1 January 2019.
• There will be an age relaxation of up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST, OBC- NCL, and PWD categories and for women candidates.
• Candidates with research experience are limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years on producing a certificate from an appropriate authority.
• Candidates having an L.L.M degree will be eligible for three-year age relaxation.
