What is NIFT?

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts a national-level design entrance exam to select candidates for its participating institutes in NIFT 2024. Currently, 18 institutes are participating in the exam, collectively offering a combined intake of 5,215 seats. These participating institutes provide various courses such as B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M.

The NIFT entrance exam consists of two parts:

  • In Part I, candidates must take the written exams, including the General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT). The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates must take the CAT paper.
  • In Part II, candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the written exams. For B.Des candidates, Part II comprises a Situation Test, which evaluates their design skills. On the other hand, PG candidates need to appear for a Personal Interview. However, for the B.F.Tech program admission is solely based on the GAT scores, and no further evaluation is conducted.

The final score for NIFT 2024 for the remaining courses (excluding B.F.Tech) is determined by considering the weightage of the websites (GAT and CAT) along with the performance in the Situation Test or Personal Interview, depending on the course. The NIFT entrance consists of written exams (GAT and CAT) and further evaluation through a Situation Test or Personal Interview. The final score for admission to NIFT 2024 is calculated by considering the performance in the written exams and the additional evaluation components.
