KVPY, known as Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, is the national-level scholarship program the Indian Institute of Science runs. This program is organized to encourage students to pursue a research career in the Science field. Through this test, candidates can get admission to a fellowship pre-Ph.D. level or five years.

KVPY Exam Pattern

The exam pattern includes the number of questions asked in the exam, question paper type, marking scheme, etc., and those students who want to get qualified marks in the examination must prepare by preferring the exam pattern. Students must attempt all the questions in Part I and Part II for the SA Stream. Those applying for the SB/SX stream have to attempt any three sections in Part I and any two sections in Part II.

KVPY is a 3-hour objective exam. The medium of the exam is English and Hindi. The exam pattern of different streams is mentioned below.

Scientific Aptitude Stream

KVPY exam will test students on their scientific aptitude and their analytical ability. Students should thoroughly know their current science curriculum (Class 10) well.

• KVPY SA stream exam will have 2 Parts – Part I and Part II
• Part I will have 60 questions: 15 questions each of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology (P.C.M.B)
• Each question in Part I will be of 1 mark
• Part II will have 20 questions, five each of P.C.M.B
• Each question of Part II will be of 2 marks
• All questions in both parts need to be attempted

Total Marks SA Exam- 100

SB/SX Stream

Students can expect questions from their Class XII syllabus.

• The KVPY SB/SX stream will have parts (Part I & II).
• Part I will have 80 questions (20 each for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths).
• Students will have to attempt questions from only three subjects of their choice (Questions from only 60 out of 80 questions).
• Part II will have 40 questions (10 each for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math).
• Students must attempt questions from only two subjects (20 questions).
• Every right answer in Part I give students one mark.
• Part II will award students two marks for every right answer.
• Students will not be penalized for leaving an answer.
